I found this recipe, in my subscription, to Family Fun Magazine. I believe the year was 1996. If you're not familar with the magazine; they offer fun crafts and recipes, the whole family can enjoy. I always looked forward to receiving the magazine, and the time spent crafting, with my children.
It's a good idea to have all your candies prepped, beforehand.
I did make a modification for the carrot nose. Before I used the orange part, of a candy corn, and cut it in half. Now I melt the orange portion, with white melting chocolate, to create a modeling fondant. Making a tiny carrot, is easy to do. You can see how I did that on my youtube video.
The most important ingredient, is fun!
SNOWMAN PRETZEL
Ingredients:
1 Large pretzel rod - body
1 Gummy life saver, life saver, or hard circle candy - for brim of hat
1 Gumdrop - for top of hat
2 Mini chocolate chips - for eyes
1 Triangle piece of orange candy (gumdrop, candy corn, gummy life saver) - for nose
1 Strand Twizzlers Pull 'N Peel candy, Air Heads, or Fruit Leather - for scarf
3 M&M's, Sixlets, or Skittles - for buttons
1 (12 ounce) Bag white chocolate chips + 2 Tablespoons Crisco - for dipping chocolate
Directions:
You will need two 9 x 13" baking trays, lined with parchment, to work on. Open candies, and place in small bowls. In a small sauce pan, melt half of the chocolate, and Crisco, on low heat. Remove from heat, and stir in remaining chocolate; until smooth. Before you dip the pretzels; lay 3 - 4 scarves on the parchment paper. Dip the pretzels, 3/4 of the way. (I like to use a straight side mason jar, or tall glass). Shake excess chocolate. Place the pretzel rod, so when you tie the scarf, you have room for 3 buttons, beneath the scarf. Decorate with candies. Fasten the top hat, to the brim, with a dab of chocolate. (We will place the hat, after it has chilled). Sit on parchment lined tray. Refrigerate snowmen, and hats; for 2-3 minutes, until chocolate has set. Once firm, place the snowmen, in a tall glass. Fasten the hats, to the snowmen, using a dab of chocolate.
These are general candy suggestions. You can use your imagination, to find replacements. Alternatively, you can pipe decorations, or use sprinkles.
