Old Fashioned Sparkling Lemonade

This is a recipe, for old fashioned lemonade, that uses the juice and lemon peel. I’ve upped the refreshment factor, by using club soda. The balance is just right. Not too sour, not too sweet.

OLD FASHIONED SPARKLING LEMONADE

INGREDIENTS:

14 Fresh Lisbon lemons, organic, washed, peeled, juiced to 2 3/4 cups

3 Cups sugar

3 Cups water

5 (33 ounce) Bottles Reduced Sodium Club Soda

DIRECTIONS:

Place lemon peels and sugar, in a large pot. Let sit for 1 hour. Boil water. Pour water over sugar mixture. Stir to dissolve. Strain water back to the pan used to boil water, discarding lemon peels. Bring lemon water to a boil. Let simmer 30 minutes. Stir fresh lemon juice into sugar water. Since I am making the lemonade, by the pitcher. I portion out the lemonade base, into 3 containers (1/2 liter each). For each pitcher: Fill pitcher half way with ice. Pour in 1/2 liter of lemonade base. Fill with 1 1/2 liters club soda. Stir gently.

Makes 3 (2 Liter) Pitchers

  1. That's a lot of sugar unless you use Splenda. Crystal lite has a good instant lemonaid that I have used for years.

  2. I’m not one to drink sugary beverages. Trust me, this is not too sweet. 3 cups of sugar for 6 liters of lemonade. The point of the recipe, is to have old fashioned lemonade. Not a mix with sugar substitute. To each their own.
