How To Prepare Flour For Long Term Storage

It’s always a good idea, to have a well stocked pantry, in case of an emergency. Since groceries are expensive, it is wise to protect your investment. 

In this post, I am going to show you how to store, all purpose flour, for the long term. This will keep your flour dry, water tight, bug and rodent free.

HOW TO PREPARE FLOUR FOR LONG TERM STORAGE

25 Pounds all purpose flour

1 (4 gallon) Square food save plastic bucket with lid, and gasket

4 (1 gallon) Mylar bags, zippered, stand up

8 (300 cc) Food safe oxygen absorbers

4 (1 gram) Packets desiccant

 

Each, 1 gallon, mylar bag will hold 6.25 pounds of flour. Fill each mylar bag, in the following order:  1 packet of oxygen absorber, half the flour, 1 packet desiccant, remainder of flour, 1 packetoxygen absorber. Fold bag, to let air out. Zip bag closed. Placeprepared bags into a square, food safe bucket, with gasket in lid. Store in a cool dark place.

  1. Also can store in the freezer long term. If stored outside the freezer, always add a bay leaf. Keeps bugs out.
