I'm continuing the series, of prepping dry goods for long term storage. Pinto beans, when paired with rice, are a perfect protein. Thus, a complete meal. I'm walking you through the storage process, to protect your investment. The beans need to be stored, so they are: bug proof, rodent proof, dry, and water tight.
HOW TO PREPARE PINTO BEANS FOR LONG TERM STORAGE
24 - 25 Pounds pinto beans
1 (4 gallon) Square food save plastic buckets with lids, and gasket
4 (1 gallon) Mylar bags
8 (300 cc) Food safe oxygen absorbers
4 (1 gram) Packets desiccant
Each, 1 gallon, mylar bag will hold 6 - 6.25 pounds of pinto beans. Fill each mylar bag, in the following order: 1 packet of oxygen absorber, half the pinto beans, 1 packet desiccant, remainder of pinto beans, 1 packet oxygen absorber. Fold bag, to let air out. Zip bag closed. Place prepared bags into a square, food safe bucket, with gasket in lid. Store in a cool dark place.
Note - 24 pounds of pinto beans will fit in a 4 gallon bucket.
25 pounds of pinto beans will fit in a 5 gallon bucket.
