How To Prepare White Rice For Long Term Storage

This is my last installment, for bulk food preparation, for long term storage. I have covered the basics: flour, sugar, beans. I am rounding this out, with white rice.

I chose to store converted white rice, because white rice has a longer shelf life than brown rice. Also, converted rice is parboiled. You don't have to rinse it. In an emergency situation, you don't want to waste valuable drinking water, on rinsing rice.

It is important to store your food, so it will be fresh, when you need it. You want to make sure the rice stays dry, bug free, rodent free, and water proof.

All supplies can be purchased through Amazon.

A demonstration video is on my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBlQ2_fugxo

HOW TO PREPARE WHITE RICE FOR LONG TERM STORAGE

25 Pounds converted white rice
1 (4 gallon) Square food save plastic buckets with lids, and gasket
4 (1 gallon) Mylar bags, zippered, stand up
8 (300 cc) Food safe oxygen absorbers
4 (1 gram) Packets desiccant

Each, 1 gallon, mylar bag will hold 6.25 pounds of rice. Fill each
mylar bag, in the following order:  1 packet of oxygen absorber,
half the rice, 1 packet desiccant, remainder of rice, 1 packet
oxygen absorber. Fold bag, to let air out. Zip bag closed. Place
prepared bags into a square, food safe bucket, with gasket in

lid. Store in a cool dark place.
